First of Many!

Juan, Lucas, and I had the wonderful opportunity to meet the most amazing lady this past Friday.  She is a very special person who has so many loving stories to share about her son David to encourage us in our new journey.  After meeting with her and doing our own research about Trisomy 21/Down Syndrome we have discovered that we are beginning a wonderful adventure of parenting our sweet baby boy Lucas.

Our lives are going to be forever changed.  Although, we do not understand or do not know why we were the chosen parents of Lucas we are beginning to truly understand that we can and will do what it best for our baby boy.  He has already won so many hearts over with our family and friends.  I am trusting and having faith that God will continue to place positive people in and out of our lives to help motivate and encourage Lucas and our family all along the way.

Lucas already at 6 weeks of age already has begun to travel down this wonderful path to begin receiving support and help to encourage his development.  I read a wonderful story last week about a little girl named Penny.  In this story Penny's mother describes down syndrome as being like two cars a corvette (normal) and a Honda (down syndrome).  They are both cars that can get somewhere.  The corvette may get there faster but the Honda will eventually get there too.  I know that Lucas will have many obstacles and hurtles to overcome but I am still holding on to the fact that God will not give him or us anything we cannot handle.

As we begin and continue to travel down this road I am looking forward to meeting all the new people that will enter into our lives.  I cannot wait to enjoy all laughs and share stories.  I am looking forward to listening to Lucas share his stories.  Our sweet baby Lucas has and will continue to change hearts and encourage others with the strength and daily Love that he always carries with him daily.

       Update:  December 23, 2014
Our Lucas has already made gains in his weight, he now weighs a whopping 8lbs 15oz.  This is as much as his big sister weighed at birth.  He is beginning to listen and recognize different voices he knows.  He moves and tries really hard to reach and stretch his arms to move the rattle animals dangling from his play mat.  He loves to kick, kick, kick one day he will get those animals with one of his feet you watch and see.  He more alert each day and loves to share and show off his big beautiful eyes...

Update:  December 26, 2014
Lucas needed to visit yet another clinic Los Ninos to receive a synagis injection to lessen the chances of getting a severe case of RSV during the peek months of October - March.  He will need to receive the shot every 30 days through these months, poor guy.  He took it like a champ and only cried for a minute.  No wonder down syndrome children begin to not like the doctor at an early age.  He is only a month and a half old and has already seen and been to so many appointments.       On a positive note he was weighed yet again and he is still making progress he now weighs 9lbs 1oz.
"If only the world could see through the eyes of a child with Down Syndrome.  It would be a better place."
